According to the NY Times, Wednesday ,November 10, 2004, The Metropolitan Museum of Art has made it's most expensive purchase ever. The Museum purchased a small early 14th Century Madonna and Child painting by Duccio di Buoninsegna for the astounding price of 45 million dollars.

Duccio is widely credited with being one of the founding fathers of Western Art.
